During more ancient times, airplane pilots and ship captains navigated their planes and ships through the used of the position of stars, moon, and the sun. However, today modern man uses Vedic Astrology to navigate through their life in order to get the absolute most out of it. Individuals use this type of astrology to learn how to meditate when life becomes too fast. There are several individuals who will use Vedic Astrology when looking for some new love interest in their lives or when ever wanting to be able to conceive a child. These individuals live a simple life where they believe in simple living and a higher way of thinking in order to become happy. Every single person that comes into your life has had several broken dreams and wishes throughout their lives. Inside their hearts lives an abundance of humanity and wealth, which if used correctly can be used to guide these individuals in the right direction in their lives.

The belief behind Vedic Astrology is that every individual has some type of karmic path that they are able to live with or able to change through various events within their lives. By studying and following a path of Vedic Astrology individuals are able to even locate the right profession, which will help them to fulfill their financial prospects. The aspects contained within these astrological charts can help guide you through life, whether it be through financial, medical, professional, romantic, or several other aspects.

One of these astrological charts is known as the Janma Kundali, which originally came from India and represents the beginning point within our lives. Many astrologers consider this to be where the pulse of our lives exactly exists. Reading and studying these charts by qualified Vedic astrologers includes such acts that are known as Shantis, which is the process of measuring with gemstones or mantras. When these acts are used appropriately then they can impact the individual by determining what is going to happen within their lives so they can react accordingly.

Another type of astrological chart that many beginning astrologers will use is the basic natal chart, which is also known as rasi. This particular chart consists of twenty-seven signs that are under the moon. The ancient Indian name for this astrological chart is known as nakshatras. Within several of these charts are other charts that are designed to assist astrologers with analyzing such things as a perfect marriage match or to enable them to uncover other important aspects of their personal life. When these charts are used in combination with the other astrological charts, then qualified astrologers will be able to track all types of karmic influences.

These astrologers learn that several planets are able to rule within a certain period of a persons life. Ancient philosophers developed a sense of consciousness through the use of a variety of Vedic astrological charts. The study of Vedic Astrology has grown increasingly in the past couple years in the more modern western environments with the assistance of massive growing appeal from the advertising market. There are several resources able for individuals, scientists, philosophers, and astrologers available in order to begin their study of Vedic Astrology.

Chinese astrology existed ever since the Qin dynasty when astrologists would gaze and analyze the skies for omens in order to predict what would happen to the country. Now people from all over the world are interested in the Chinese zodiac and have checked what their Chinese horoscopes would be, just as they would with the Western horoscopes. The zodiac is a twelve year cycle and each year is named after the twelve animals, the dog, rabbit, horse, ox, rat, monkey, rooster, boar, dragon, tiger, sheep, and snake. A person’s destiny and fortune can be based through the position of the planets depending on the day he or she was born. Chinese astrology is still being done even in modern Chinese society even to the point of scheduling the births of their children in order for them to be born under a certain zodiac. In Chinese astrology, a person’s traits, character, success and happiness can be determined through his or her zodiac. There is more to a person’s horoscope than the animal of his year. Chinese horoscopes also base its predictions on the five elements depending on which planet the person was born under. Earth, Fire, Metal, Wood and Water correspond to the planets Saturn, Mars, Venus, Jupiter, and Mercury. These make up Yin and Yang and determine the characteristics of the twelve animal signs. For example, a person who is a Tiger (its fixed element is Wood), he or she is unpredictable, rebellious, powerful, passionate, daring, and impulsive. But Chinese astrology, aside from basing the zodiacs on the person’s birth year, also determines the characteristics and traits of a person through the months (inner animals) and the hours (secret animals). Though a person is a Tiger because he or she is born in the year of the Tiger, he or she could be a sheep internally and an ox secretively. There are many other factors that affect the person’s zodiac, such as which trine or groups of three do the animals belong to depending on their similarity in characteristics.

Chinese horoscopes are ways in which people assess you as a person or how you asses yourself and your personality. Through this, you’ll be able to determine what will happen to your happiness, successes, and fortune in the future. Even in the present society Chinese astrology is still being looked into. The Beijing Olympics were thought to be a way to celebrate the year 2008 as a lucky year for China, but were astounded when all sorts of calamities happened before the Olympics’ opening last August 8, 2008.

Other countries have also consulted Chinese horoscopes in determining what is to happen on a certain day. Japanese, Vietnamese, Korean and Thai zodiacs all base theirs from the Chinese with minor differences such as the names/labels of their animals and the replacement with different animals. The influence of the Chinese to many cultures around the world is so great that even Chinese horoscopes are being consulted and Chinese astrology is still depended on in Chinese communities around the world.

Basically, horoscope is a chart of a person’s birth or it is also known as the Natal Chart. It is an extended analysis of all the planet’s position in the zodiac, for a particular place and also for a precise time and date. However, this signifies that a horoscope of any person is related on the positions of the planets according to their origin of birth, date of birth and also their exact time of birth. One could view the horoscope in the representation of tables, where their formats can vary from country to country and also from culture to culture. Irrespective of the form it takes, the most common thing in all the horoscopes is based on the date, time and place of birth. It is normally a chart where the positions of moon, the sun and other constellations supplementing to the positions of planets are depicted. Moreover, these positions are marked on the chart as per their relationships to the Earth, at the time when any individual is born. Astrological predictions are based completely on the horoscopes and there are differences in each of the horoscopes depicting the personality as well as the destiny of an individual.

A horoscope is sure to contain any one of the following 12 astrological signs such as Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces. A horoscope is classified in to 12 houses or segments similarly like the twelve numbers on the face of the clock, with the exception that everything takes a backward position of what one knows in reading a map. North is to the bottom, south is to the top, East is to the left and West to the right. For example, the rising sign, generally the sign that rises on the horizon in east at the time of birth is at the position of 9 o’clock. That sign with its outlook, concern and qualities blends with one’s moon sign and sun sign to create a personality to be used when one meets the outer world along with the characters showed to people in general. Obviously, this is very important in uncovering about the ‘first impression’ created on the people.

However, when noting the birth time of children, it is highly advisable to ensure that the clock is set accurate possibly. The time of birth has to be marked in the astrological feel not noting the moment of delivery but the moment when the child gives its first cry, because that cry is considered to be the completion of its first breath.

With the horoscope, many predictions are made relating to the future that may include marriage proposals, occupation, business opportunities and anything which needs to be predicted. Today’s world is advancing with many technologies and people enjoy the faster connectivity in internet and they make use of the World Wide Web to learn and interpret the horoscope. Amazing details are provided by the Internet about each of the sign and a person simply needs to identify a good website.

Astrology is one of the traditional methods of divination, which is completely based upon theory of the locations and positions of the supernal heavenly bodies like planets, sun, moon and the stars during the birth of an individual’s life. While describing Astrology with respect to psychological outline, it is a kind of new age therapy that is practiced for personality examination and self-understanding. Though describing in both stipulations, astrology is a reflection of magical thinking. While most people describe astrology as supernal belief, the Thorwald Dethlefsen describes astrology as a method of exemplifying reality. As a real fact, Astrology will be described with different connotation by several different people. A well researching scientist or fashion loved modernist will merely describe astrology as a simple concept and toughest part of science. Few people consider it as a mesmerizing art, or ability, or spiritual facts, or a psychological practice or even as a religion. While discussing in reality, Astrology is something that could be implemented with exact time of birth and the place of birth. Astrology is common to all living thing! Even your pet dog has their future presaged, if you get to know their place of birth and time of birth.

For all these reason, astrology is set to be a blend of several themes of emotion. All these confusions prevailing, people get into confusion on what to believe and what not to believe. How would you behave if someone tells you the date and time of your death, without knowing things about your style of living? That would be really scaring people out from their wits. The right birth time and place of a person will help an astrologist to calculate his/her death date! Though all these information are shared, some might believe Astrology whereas some never trust all these facts. Astrology is the influencing of natural heavenly bodies and it is described as a symbolic representation of exemplifying reality.

There are several branches in horoscopic astrology. They are described here as follows:

Basically astrology horoscope could be categorized into 4 branches that will be directed with particular field or subject. All these branches make use of specific technical approach with various applications including to the core precept of system in various area. The four principle branches of astrology are explained here for your denotation.

Natural Astrology is an examination of an individual birth chart, which acquires information about the person’s life understandings.

Katarchic Astrology is a method of practice that includes electional & event astrology. This astrology will assist in determining the precious right moment to initiate a business enterprise. It also describes the best moment to set the event of the work.

Horary Astrology is a practice that is used to give answer for several queries of education chart.

Mundane Astrology which is otherwise called as world astrology is an application that deals with world or universal events like earthquakes, weather, empire, religion, and other more.

The above discussed are the several branches of astrology and all these types will hold its uniqueness and individualism.

Some people think Astrology begins and ends with a Sun Sign description of your personality — a list of qualities, characteristics, and possible short-comings that may seem assigned to you essentially at random based on the day you were born — a day when, of course, the Sun was traveling through a certain, often easily-determined, sign of the Zodiac. That then becomes your Sun Sign — and dime-store astrology seems to imply you’re stuck with it.

Your Sun Sign position is what you’re really telling people when you announce — or admit — or have the information pried out of you by rude and relentless questions — that you’re a Scorpio, or a Capricorn, or a Gemini. (For different reasons, those are the signs least likely to give up that piece of self-revelation without a fight.)

This over-emphasis on Sun Sign traits as the basis of pop-culture Astrology is understandable. It’s a misconception based mostly on convenience. The Sun in its celestial travels follows a stable, predictable course. It stays in each sign approximately one month. It never retrogrades. It rises and sets day after day, season after season, very reliably. In fact everything about life as we know it depends on exactly that. The Sun … being there … doing its thing.

The Sun’s position on any given day is, as I said, almost always easy to determine — as long as you don’t run afoul of those pesky “cusp” days, the days close to when the Sun moves from one sign to another. Those vary in ways many people find confusing — even upsetting — again, because convenience drives common knowledge. Once you understand Astrology, these little questions and niggles smooth out nicely. But most people don’t want to go that far. They use Astrology in its elementary cookie-cutter form as a bit of light entertainment, barely scratching the surface of what this wonderful body of knowledge can give them … with their little hit-and-miss journeys into self-knowledge — through the vehicle of their Sun Sign description.

Sure, that list of Sun Sign qualities will hit the target more often than not — which is why Astrology remains such a staple of dime-store wisdom and newspaper feature forecasts. But there are sincere people who are not just cynics, nay-sayers, and wet blankets who can honestly say their Sun Sign description misses the essence of them by a country mile. Such instances fuel the opposition voices who call Astrology a superstition, a pseudo-science, a fraud … and point emphatically to the fact that Sun Sign analyses don’t always work. These people, too, have a point.

The Sun’s position in a horoscope, and what it says about the elements in a person’s character, is a very important piece of the picture, but it’s only that — a piece. And that’s the reason why Astrology as a whole seems to miss the mark badly in some people’s opinion. But take a picture of a beautiful woman, slice out a section that represents perhaps 3% of the total image … show it to someone, and chances are he will indeed wonder what all the fuss is about. (He may even wonder what he’s looking at. It may be hard to tell. Without that 3%, the picture is flawed and incomplete … but that 3% alone doesn’t begin to convey the whole experience.)

The trouble is … to get the whole picture of what Astrology can tell you about yourself, you have to learn the craft — or get someone who knows it well to interpret your horoscope for you. Meanwhile, Sun Sign Astrology, as a representative of the whole body of knowledge, continues to weave its way through the cultural awareness … mainly, as mentioned because it is quick and easy to get a person’s birthday and relate it to one of the twelve divisions of the Zodiac. People like things that are quick and easy. It’s why McDonald’s has sold billions of hamburgers that no gourmet would ever call “good food.”

People want their fun moments of light self-analysis to work the same. So they want their Astrology the way they want their drive-in meal: fast, hot, and familiar. (And if it’s also cheap … hey, that’s another plus.) Sure that hamburger will get you from breakfast to dinner. It will keep you alive. But it may not be nutritious, good for you, or even tasty. But at least when you step up to the counter and get your order, what you usually find in the sack is a complete sandwich. Consider instead how you’d feel if you got 3% of the sandwich … and had to make do with that. Kind of leaves you with an empty feeling doesn’t it? But at least it gives you something to think about — and maybe wanting more.

Astrology studies the celestial bodies affects on humanity. In particular human fate, destiny, and personality were described by the celestial influences of the stars and planets. The roots of Astrology can be traced back to the first or second century BC. Many ancient cultures such as the Egyptians, Babylonians, and Chinese practiced forms of Astrology. Although, the methods of Astrological forecast differed slightly from culture to culture there still remained many fundamental similarities between them. For example Chinese Astrology which evolved convergent to western Astrology had some major differences. The most fundamental difference being the use of the moons 28 day cycle through the heavens as opposed to the Suns* 365 day cycle around the earth(*Note: The Sun does not revolve around the earth but during this period it was the popular belief). The earliest Chinese zodiac divided the lunar cycles into 4 groups each corresponding to a different season and 7 sub groups corresponding to specific lunar mansions in the season. The seasons were given animal based names for example: Spring=The Green Dragon of spring, summer=The Red Bird of Summer, fall=The White Tiger of autumn, and winter=The Black Tortoise of Winter.

Even though the use of the moon in Chinese Astrology opposed the use of the suns movement through the celestial bodies in the Babylonian and Egyptian disciplines some similarities still existed. These similarities included the use of elemental attributes assigned to the planets. For example Saturn= Earth, Mars=Fire, Mercury=Water, Venus=Metal, and Jupiter=Wood. In addition to this similarity the Chinese zodiac also has 12 signs like its western counterpart.

The western use of the sun as the foci for Astrological studies stemmed from the pre heliocentric model of the universe. In particular Egyptians may have contributed greatly to the earth centered model of the solar system. They believed a giant dung beetle pushed the sun through the sky like a giant piece of dung. This earth centered model of our solar system coincidentally seemed to arise around 1.5 BC right around the time the Egyptian and Babylonian studies of celestial objects began.

As you may suspect there are different schools of thought on Astrology. These include Moon signs, Sun Signs, and animal signs. The popular horoscope used in your local newspaper for example is probably based on your sun sign. In contrast the Indian Vedic school of thought would be more concerned with your moon sign. While the Chinese system uses animal signs in their zodiac and is based on the twelve year Jovan cycle. Some even speculate that there may be correlation between Astrological studies and the Tarot deck.

In conclusion, Astrology has substantial scientific, historical, societal, and spiritual foundations. However you look at it the influences of the planets and constellations on our lives is evident in our every day lives. From the ebbing and rising of the oceans’ tides alone it should be apparent that the immense power of the moon has profound affects on our planet. In addition based on this it would stand to reason that as humans composed mostly of water the celestial bodies (ie the Moon) do have a profound impact on our moods, personality traits, and interactions with others. Wouldn’t it?

In describing character qualities, pop culture Astrology deals with Sun Sign descriptions as a matter of convenience. Almost everybody knows his birthday, and from that, he can almost always find himself in one of the Sun Sign categories that describe the creative personalities of humankind. But the Sun is only one of 10 celestial elements in a basic horoscope.

Granted, the Sun’s position is important … and granted the fact that it’s usually nice and easy to locate in one of the 12 Zodiac signs isn’t exactly a bad thing. (Usually a little bit of information or knowledge about any subject is better than nothing at all. Anyone has to start learning about any new subject somewhere!!)

But to single out the Sun as the most important placement in a horoscope does gives it an unwarranted amount of weight in describing a person’s character. Equally important are the Moon Sign and the Ascendant Sign … and of those three, it’s awfully hard to tell which one has an edge, and so deserves extra consideration, over the others. (When you’re making chocolate milk, which is more important … the milk, the sugar, or the cocoa? Leave out one of those ingredients … and whatever you’ve got — it ain’t chocolate milk!!)

However, the process of determining those other two signs, for anyone, is inconvenient. The Moon changes signs every 2 1/2 days, so you need a special book of tables (called an ephemeris) — or at the least an astrological calendar for the year the person was born — to find his Moon sign. And even then, if he was born on a day when the Moon changed from one sign to another, you may still have to guess. (There are ten of those days every month. Your odds of hitting one are pretty good!)

And in order to know a person’s Ascendant Sign (also called his “Rising Sign”), you absolutely must have a birth time. The Ascendant Sign changes every 2 hours. Trying to guess that without something concrete to go on is obviously pretty dicey!!

Even with a birth time straight off a birth certificate, you still have to have either a good Astrology program on your computer (Thank God for people who write software!!) … or you need an ephemeris, a Table of Houses, a book of latitudes and longitudes, and the knowledge of how to cast a horoscope by hand. (In the bad old days before computers … I remember them well … this process could take the better part of half an hour for one chart!!)

There are people who understandably resist (and resent!!) being categorized and “labeled” by preconceptions about their Sun Sign. They feel — and rightly so — that they are far more individual than one in twelve. But add their Moon Sign and its qualities to the mix — which, as I said, gives information that is just as significant, valid, and powerful as their Sun Sign traits — and now each person is 1 in 144. Better maybe, but still not enough you say?

Add their Ascendant Sign to the equation, and each person is 1 in 1728. And there are still 8 more planet placements to consider. Add Mercury — the symbol of the conscious mind and intellectual perspective — and the figure becomes 1 in 5184. Add Venus — the symbol of their social skills, financial talents, and relationship interests — and each person is 1 in 25,920. Starts to get a little more interesting at that point, doesn’t it. And the atmosphere in which each personality exists more rare!

Some astrologers feel Moon Sign information is the missing element in basic Sun Sign Astrology, the reason why many folks justifiably feel Astrology itself doesn’t work — when, in fact, it works beautifully for anyone who knows the craft. So, would adding Moon Sign information to the description catalog of popular Sun Sign Astrology be helpful. Probably. If a little knowledge is a good thing … a little more knowledge is almost certainly better. But I also have to cast my vote on this one with the people who howl that even 144 choices instead of 12 still isn’t enough to cover much ground.

Whether they realize it or not, the skeptics and protestors are making the very same point any competent astrologer would accept immediately — with no haggling whatsoever. If the complete interpretation of your Natal Chart would render a full-color portrait of your character — photographically accurate in its quality and description of you and your potentials — (and it will!!), why settle for a couple of brush strokes from the Sun Sign / Moon Sign palette and wind up with at best an “impression” and at worst a cartoon caricature of who you really are?

Before looking at what the zodiac is, it is important first to understand what the ecliptic is. If you were to imagine what you see when you look up into the sky, and if you tracked the apparent movement of the Sun through it, this is what is meant when the word ecliptic is used. Put simply it means the apparent pathway of the Sun through the sky as viewed from earth.

The zodiac is actually a group of constellations that form the backdrop to the Sun’s apparent pathway through the sky that extends 9 degrees on either side of the ecliptic. The orbits of the planets (and our Moon) also fall within this zodiac belt. The word zodiac stems from the ancient Greeks - zodiakos kyklos, “circle of animals”, or ta zodia, “the little animals” because most of the constellations through which the ecliptic passes represent animals. Although the constellations are irregular in size and shape the 12 astrological signs are generally allocated 30 degrees each.

“The word zodiac stems from the ancient Greeks - zodiakos kyklos, “circle of animals”, or ta zodia, “the little animals…”

The ecliptic was clearly identified and divided into 12 equal signs of the zodiac around 450 BC in Mesopotamia. Most reference sources indicate that the zodiac is a Babylonian invention - the oldest record of the zodiacal signs is a cuneiform horoscope from 419 BC. At the same time, Greek sources claim the discovery of the ecliptic during the second half of the 5th century BC. Like many historical developments it is quite possible that both the Greek and Babylonian cultures developed these systems at about the same time.

Symbolically, each of the zodiac signs (Aries - Ram; Taurus - Bull; Gemini - Twins; Cancer - Crab; Leo - Lion; Virgo - Virgin; Libra - Scales; Scorpio - Scorpion; Sagittarius - Archer; Capricorn - Goat; Aquarius - Water Bearer; and Pisces - Fish) represent various qualities. For example, Aries is represented by a Ram and the qualities of initiative, bravery and assertiveness.

Because the Sun’s (apparent) pathway through the heavens is basically constant and can be found at roughly the same spot for the same date in each year, this is how we came to use Sun Signs: the position of the Sun in relation to the backdrop of the zodiac constellations. This system is convenient because the average person doesn’t have to have complicated planetary positions worked out to know which constellation affects them personally, the date of birth is all that is needed in most cases.

Can Astrology tell the future? Well, yes, actually it can. But not in the cut-and-dried way many people would like to use it. It won’t tell you when you’re going to win the lottery. (Let’s face it. The almost-certain answer to that one is “Never.” No, not ever … put it from your mind, save your money. There are reasons why people joke that the lottery is a tax on people who are really, really, really bad at math.) It won’t tell you if that cute guy who hit on you last night is going to propose. (Talk about jumping the queue on the various stages of a relationship necessary to get to marriage, for crying out loud!!) However, it will tell you what kind of relationships you’re likely to attract at the moment — and how you work with the presence of other people in your life.In some very interesting and important ways, Astrology will tell you what’s going on in your life right now … and what’s coming up in the future. And in that way it can, yes, indeedy … predict the future. But the real value of Astrology — the pure gold you can mine from this fabulous and fascinating body of wisdom — is that it can teach you to think differently about yourself, your life, your possibilities, your “problems” … and from that it can help you understand and work more productively with the events of your future than you might have done fumbling along in the dark.

That said, I have to agree half-heartedly, half-jokingly, that sometimes ignorance is bliss — and I sometimes have that thought in the back of my mind as I open up my chart and look at what’s coming over the hill in the next several months … or several years. But ignorance is not such bliss that I’m willing to adopt it as a lifestyle. There’s a real difference between ignorance-as-bliss and sheer-cussed-stupidity. (And for me, informed preparation and a heads-up alert beats them both hands-down.) I have never yet refused to look at my chart because I didn’t want to know what it says. (Maybe that day is coming — but not so far.) And I have to admit that sometimes what stares back at me from that page with all the funny symbols is not one bit joyful.

But to know what I know and not use it — even when the going is tough and really, really unpleasant, makes no more sense to me than slapping a blindfold securely over my eyes as I fire up the car and pull out of my driveway onto the road. Or refusing to look at the map because it may show me that the river I’m sailing on is steering me straight toward one mother-bear of a waterfall. There are some people who are even more adamant about the benefits of preparation than I am … and others who just as firmly prefer the ignorance route. Both are choices — and people get to make them.

But whether you want to be sure you have your life-jacket cinched on well and your cargo tied down twenty minutes ahead of time, or decide to beach the boat and, if possible, carry it and YOU around the problem on a different path, or whether you really “don’t want to think about it” until you hear the deep roar of falling water on rocks and see the edge of the world coming up fast, the information is there. And how you choose to use it … or whether or not you even choose to know about it … can have a real impact on your future, the quality of your experience, and the message you take from whatever happened.

To me, that’s Astrology’s real value. Not as a predictor of “what’s going to happen to me” as a helpless victim of Fate … but as an indicator that there are both pleasures and potholes (to put it mildly) on the road ahead, and I have some things to learn and some choices to make on how to deal with them.
